The Greensboro Bicentennial Commission was created to commemorate the founding of Greensboro in 1808 with historical, educational and multicultural celebrations throughout the entire community. The Commission is overseeing the planning and coordination of events, projects, and activities that reflect the rich heritage of Greensboro as well as the exciting promise of the city's future.
The Bicentennial Commission was appointed by city council and is made up of 27 members and three co-chairs, with administrative support from an executive director and an assistant. Numerous volunteers are actively involved.
The Bicentennial is being planned and organized by volunteer committees that include: Arts and Cultural, Budget and Finance, Commemoration, Education, Fundraising, History, Neighborhoods, Torch Relay, Downtown Heritage Festival, World of Tomorrow, Parade of Decades, Publicity and Public Relations, and Faith Community.
