Greensboro Parade of Decades

All groups, organizations, businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate and show their Greensboro pride! Review the information below and submit your entry form either in person or via mail by January 20, 2008 at 5pm to Greensboro Jaycees, c/o Parade of Decades, 401 North Greene Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.

When is the parade?

Saturday, May 17, 2008 beginning at 11am. It will last approximately two hours.

What is the theme?

The theme is The Parade of Decades and will focus on entries randomly drawn for each decade over the past 200 years of Greensboro's History from 1808 - 2008.

How essential is it for our entry to correspond with the parade's theme?

The entry process for this year's parade will largely be based on the ability to incorporate theme into the entry itself. The theme of the Bicentennial Parade is The Parade of Decades. After all entries have been notified, we will hold a Mandatory Entry Meeting for all entries. During that meeting, we will hold the "Decade Draw". During the Decade Draw, each of the entries in the parade will randomly draw a decade in order to develop their entry. We are providing all entrants with a History of Greensboro through the decades to help in creating their "Award Winning Entry". Prizes will be given for: Best Musical Entry, Most Creative Decade, and Bicentennial Pride. We are looking for originality, hometown spirit, and Greensboro Pride! NOTE: Entries including people dressed as General Nathaniel Greene will not be allowed to participate.

What is the parade route?

The parade route goes through downtown Greensboro. The parade will begin at N. Greene and Lindsay, travel south on Greene to Market, turn East (left) on Market, continue on Market to Church Street, turn North (left) on Church Street and end at Church and Lindsay near the Childrens Museum and Greensboro Historical Museum.

Where will parking be available?

Free parking will be available at all public parking garages. All garages will be open until approximately 10:30 am. At that time, they will be closed and not reopen until after the entire parade ends (approximately 1:30 pm).

What time should I arrive to get a good spot for watching the parade?

Please try to get downtown as early as possible. The best time to get there, park your car in one of the parking decks, and get a good spot is usually between 9am - 10am.

What if it rains?

The parade will take place rain or shine. In the event that there is an unforeseen tragedy or a situation that could cause immediate danger and harm to parade participants and onlookers, the parade will be canceled.

What are the fees to participate in the parade this year?

Non-Profit: Entry Fee-Free Non Profit Organizations include churches, schools, non-profit agencies, hospitals, scouts, neighborhood groups, and government agencies. Proof of non-profit status may be requested.
For Profit: Entry Fee: $50.00 - All entries that are entered by businesses and corporations.

Are vendors allowed at the parade?

Yes, the fee for vendors is $100 per cart. Vendor spaces will be assigned first come first serve and there is not a multi-cart discount for vendors.

Where are the staging areas for parade lineup?

Staging for the parade will begin at Lindsay and Murrow streets, and continue down to Greene and Smith streets. The actual parade will begin at Greene and Lindsay Streets.
